WHY take DANCE????

Here at Lone Peak, I sometimes wonder, "Where have all the dancers gone?"

One would assume a school with so many dancers that attend studios would have many technically strong dancers, and that the dance program would be big!  Why is this not the case in some more well-to-do schools?

In reality, anyone and everyone can and should dance.  It's the assumption that those that love dance would want to do and learn more about dance, and thus one would think they would be lining up to take dance classes.

Why should people consider taking a dance class in school?
Why is dance in education different and supplemental to what is done in a studio?
Why is dance education so important in having a well-rounded education?
What are the benefits of dance education?

I will be addressing these questions, but first, I would like to share some current information (from my recent graduate school studies in my masters of education program).

What is the purpose of school?
What should I be learning in school?
What skills are essential that I should be learning in order to be successful in the future?

Keep in mind, while reviewing the following information, the purpose of dance education.  Dance in school, in Utah, across the United States, and beyond, has a very clear and prescribed core curriculum and standards.  If all that was done in a school dance class was practice and perfect fun routines, the class would not count as a fine arts credit and/or a PE activity credit!

Wait a minute!  Dancers are supposed to think!?!?!
